Paleo Based Diet?

When I first learned about living paleo it was completely new to me. I learned about what it was and started eating a paleo based diet over 3 years ago. I in no way think I'm an expert or live completely 100% paleo for every meal. (As you can probably tell for my love of Disney food in my other blog posts.) I just love the idea of eating paleo and trying to live as closely to it as I can. However, I let myself indulge in fun food from time to time.

I don't like using the word diet to explain living paleo because people always think dieting means they will be eating nasty foods. Living paleo has honestly been the opposite of that. For me, its made eating less of a hassle and more of something fun to look forward to. Shout out to the awesome person who introduced me to paleo, you know who you are!

1.) Definition of Paleo

The word Paleo means "Anceint, prehistoric, early primitive." When you think of that in terms of food, what comes to mind? You guessed it, fruits, vegetables, and meat. Nothing processed and that's basically what the paleo diet is all about, eating the purest version of food you can.

2.) Why Eat Paleo?

When you think of the foods we eat today, most of them have ingredients lists like a mile long. Half of those on the list I bet you've never even heard of. I know I haven't. All these chemicals and processed foods aren't good for our bodies. Someone once asked me, "What is an Oreo? Or what are Cheetos? Can you think of anything natural that its made of?" I don't know about you guys but that freaked me out. We are eating things that are completely unnatural to our bodies. What is eating if not to nourish and take care of our bodies. That's why the paleo diet is such a good thing you're only eating nutritional whole foods.

3.) Paleo Do's and Don'ts

When grocery shopping, the easiest way for me to explain paleo is the outer ring of the grocery store. Anything in the middle down those isles is probably a no. Nuts, Fruits, vegetables, and meat are all found without having to go down those isles.

One really hard thing for me to let go of with eating paleo was dairy. I love cheese, ice cream, milk you name it. Unfortunately, dairy is not included in the do's of paleo and although it may be sad, its for a reason. Dairy does such bad things to your body. It can make you gain weight, it causes gas, indigestion, and yes it causes acne. There are so many hormones in milk that just are not great for our bodies. Even though its sad, put down the milk it will all be ok.

Personally, I think it takes so much stress out of trying to figure out what's healthy and what's not healthy. What I should be eating and what I shouldn't. It makes it simple, natural foods are good and processed foods are not. I feel healthier and can tell the difference in my digestion, energy levels and skin from eating a paleo diet.

Again, I am in no way saying I know everything about paleo and the way I eat is exactly the way the diet is. I eat a 'paleo based diet' so I try to stay as closely to it as I can. If trying eating paleo seems like something you'd be interested in doing then you're in the right place. I'll be sharing all my paleo recipes here on my blog. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and even deserts.

Once you start I guarantee you'll love it!
